We've got some exciting news to share: starting today, the new Prayminder for Android is open for testing, and this is a moment we have been looking forward to for a very long time.

This is not a redesign or an update of the old Android app; we have rebuilt Prayminder for Android completely from the ground up, natively, using the latest Android technologies. That gave us the chance to build it with the same design, features, reliability, and attention to detail as the iPhone app, while making it feel fully at home on Android.

The new Android app includes the full Prayminder experience: prayers and groups, custom schedules, the Bible inside the app, verses connected to individual prayers, prayer stats, and more. Reminders are also now scheduled through the cloud, just as they are on iPhone, which means they should arrive reliably without Android’s battery optimisation getting in the way. For many of you, that has been the biggest frustration with Prayminder on Android, so bringing this same reliable system to Android has been especially important to us.

This has been one of the largest projects we have taken on so far, so reaching this point feels very exciting. We are not setting an exact date for the official release just yet, as it will depend on what we discover during testing, but if everything goes well we expect it to be a matter of weeks rather than months.

And once Android is officially out, something important changes for the future too: we will finally be able to build new features for iPhone and Android together. That also means we can begin working on the feature more of you have asked for than anything else, the ability to share prayers with other people. We have held that back on purpose, because a feature designed to bring people together should not leave Android users outside of it.

How to test

If you use Android and would like to help us test, you can join the beta on the Play Store. Before updating, please export your prayers from the current app so you have a safe backup. This is still a beta, so if something looks wrong or stops working, please use Contact Us inside the app and write to us there. Your feedback over the coming weeks will help shape the final release.
